Hands down, this is our favorite place for risotto in Asahikawa. Risotteria.GAKU tre, or Gaku for short, has just so many good meals at a very reasonable price. The atmosphere and interior decoration is very cool and unique as well. Well worth the visit when you want a break from Japanese food (because sometimes you just want to eat something a little “regular”, or non-asian, while you are traveling in Asia, right?).
As you enter you can see in the picture above they have some seats in case you have to wait. They do have a selection of different gellato ice creams if they peak your fancy after your meal (or if that’s the main purpose of your visit!)
So, let’s look at the menu! They sort it into four groups, broad based risotto (ブロードベース), tomato based (トマトベース), cream based(クリームベース), and the house’s specially made meat base (実家製ミートベース). So, first choose the base you want. After that, they have pictures for almost everything which is very convenient.
There is nothing wrong with going by the pictures in my opinion! However if you wanted to know a little bit more you can use this little key below to get an idea of the types of ingredients that appear in the risottos:
Japanese Kanji/Hiragana | English Translation |
10種野菜 | 10 types of vegetables |
エビ | shrimp/prawn |
ほたて | scallops |
鶏肉 | chicken |
たらこ | cod roe |
鮭 | salmon/trout (They use the same kanji for both fish, so I am not sure which one it is sorry) |
きのこ | mushrooms |
ベーコン | bacon |
カレー | curry |
あさり | Japanese clam |
牛肉 | beef |
I like salmon and creamy foods, so I chose the cream based Salmon and 10 types of vegetables (鮭と10種野菜のクリームリゾット). 10/10 would get it again! (And I have!)
The portion size is good and you can downsize your portion or upsize it if you prefer. (It says at the top of the menu’s page, S M and L, so you can point to that when you order.)
All in all, great food, very reasonable prices, great portions. Definitely worth a try!
Now, if you’re wondering where this restaurant is, it’s located close to the downtown area, if you have rented a bicycle that is perfect.
If you have a car, even easier as they have parking space both at the front and at the back of the building. The back area is a little easier as you enter from the side street and there’s more space for both parking and just moving your vehicle, so we always park there.
If you don’t you can get deliveries through apps such as WOLT, however the menu is different for takeaways, much less available.
Anyways, that’s all for today.
If you get a chance to visit, post a comment below of your experience! 🙂
Have a great day everyone!
